And so it begins...

Hello everyone. I am officially starting this blog as a way to document my year long adventure in American Samoa as a WorldTeach volunteer.

Where is American Samoa?
It is not Samoa (although neighbors, they are two separate countries and islands)...and it is definitely not Somalia (very different country, ocean, and continent).

American Samoa is U.S. territory (hence the 'American' part of its name), and consists of five TINY islands and two (mainly) uninhabited coral atolls. When I say tiny, I really do mean that I will be living on a tiny rock in the middle of the South Pacific... The total land area of AmSam is about 76.8 sq mi (199 sq km), compared to Massachusetts which is 10,555 sq mi (27,336 sq km).

Here are some maps of where I will be living (click on images to make them bigger):

I will be leaving for American Samoa in a little over a month. I most likely will not be posting in this blog very often until I actually arrive in AmSam, however I just wanted to test it out and give you a couple facts about where I will be living for the next year!

If you want to be notified by email whenever I post something new, type in your email addresses above (on the top right)!
